A 27-year-old tech in the modern world…

I previously worked for a specialist negotiation consultancy firm as an IT Analyst for the Service Delivery Team, and more recently in A J Bell’s London office supporting a specialist application, alongside supporting desktop issues in our London office.

Being given the opportunity to write my story here is enough and I hope that it can inspire other women to come into tech.

With technology being a fast-paced environment, you’re never still and there is always something new to learn. If you have the drive and passion for technology, you can succeed!

What team do you work in?

I work in the Service Desk Team, based in A J Bell’s Manchester office. My job covers supporting IT issues ranging from password resets and setting up hardware, through to major incident investigation and supporting resolutions.

How do you find the Technology Department at AJ Bell?

Honestly, one of the best tech teams I have worked in. The inclusivity, positivity and encouragement to be your best is nothing like I have ever experienced in any other role to date.

Do you feel there are barriers when it comes to women getting into tech?

If you had asked me that question 10 years ago, I would have said yes. However, with the way society has gone and how people can now thrive if you have the drive to succeed, I’d say the only barrier is the one people put up from themselves.

Did you always want to work in Technology Services?

It’s not something I actually expected to be doing, especially given my degree is in Business Management and Economics. However, since I took on my first IT job four years ago, I’ve never looked back.

What progression are you hoping for in your career?

I’m currently keeping my options open in terms of progression. Anything is possible and it’s waiting for the next move that feels right. For now, it’s about developing within my team.

What’s your biggest success?

Honestly, proving to myself that I can work in tech. It’s a tough area but with big rewards if you have the heart and determination for it.
